During tapings and rehearsals associated with the broadcasting of the Juno Awards of 1996, severe damage was caused to a studio camera as a result of "experimentation" by production department staff with a multi-watt laser used for producing visual effects. The fact that such severe damage had occurred to a very expensive piece of equipment raised concerns about possible injuries to production staff, performers and possibly members of the audience.
RHSC provided training to production department management and staff outlining the particular precautions that need to be observed when dealing with such lasers and laser systems.
