Large diameter multi-conductor telephone cables are produced by NORCOM. A waxy dielectric is used to provide insulation and to stabilize the cables. The wax is injected under RF induction heated conditions to ensure uniform penetration of the dielectric throughout the cables. Concerns have arisen about exposure of workers to the electric and magnetic fields associated with the RF induction heating equipment.
As of November, 1997 RHSC has visited the plant and done a preliminary evaluation of the equipment and is in the process of arranging for detailed measurements to be carried out.
